As John Travolta's legal team and the lawyer representing two male plaintiffs accusing the star of sexual abuse go back and forth in the press, sources tell Fox411.com that Travolta's wife, Kelly Preston, is purposefully being kept under wraps.

According to an inside source, the actress has been instructed to be silent and stay away from the public eye until further notice.

“It's a means of damage control and will protect her from any public scrutiny,” said the source.

Reps for Travolta and Preston did not respond to a request for comment.

The couple has faced challenges before. In 2009, they tragically lost their 16-year-old son, Jett. In November 2010, the Hollywood couple welcomed son Benjamin into the world. At the time, the rumor mill ran rampant that the new addition to the family “saved” their relationship.

Just last month, a seemingly joyful Preston, who turns 50 in October, opened up to People magazine about being mom to a newborn all over again, telling the magazine she is still breast feeding Ben, and that he shares the bed with mom and dad.

“When I stop, it’s going to be really hard on me,” she said.

The couple was most recently spotted together all-smiles, hand-in-hand a couple of weeks ago at Barbra Streisand's 70th Birthday Party at Taverna Tony's restaurant in Malibu.

Less than a month ago we’re told the pair appeared stronger and happier than ever when they went out for dinner at Katsuya restaurant in Brentwood, CA, where they signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.
