More than one million people gather in the block party-type atmosphere to dance, sing, eat cuisine from all over Latin America, drink, watch performances and listen to music.
It’s party time y’all!
The Calle Ocho festival is once again hitting the streets of Miami, Fla. in what promises to be one very exciting block party.
According to the Miami New Times, this year “Mr. 305” himself, Pitbull, will be rocking out and joining him will be fellow Miami natives, telenovela hunk JenCarlos Canela, Flo Rida, salseros Hansel y Raul and reggaeton singer Tony Dize, to name a few.
As always, you can expect free admission, great Latin cuisine and a lot of hip shaking.
In past years, some of history’s most notable Latinos have left their mark at the Calle Ocho festival, including Desi Arnaz, Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine as well as Willy Chirino, Celia Cruz and Jose Luis “El Puma” Rodríguez.
Last year Boricua rapper Fat Joe had the crowd shaking their tail feathers and he has promised to do it again along with Pitbull’s protégé Dominican rapper Sensato.
JenCarlos is scheduled to perform at 11 stages throughout the entire carnival. Wowzers!
Pitbull is taking it to another level by bringing in his own stage, the Planet Pit stage, where you can expect to get one electrifying performance.
Local radio and television stations in Miami are also setting up stages that are promising good music.
These include Mega 94.9. Kiss Country, América Tevé, Power 96, Telemundo 51 and the Miami Herald stage.
The Calle Ocho festival originated in 1978 with the goal of educating the Miami community about Cuban culture. Over the years the carnival has evolved and know is a symbol of all Latino cultures and countries in the United States.
