Russia Allegedly Has Not Supplied S-300 Air Defense Missiles to Iran

Published January 07, 2015

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said his country had not supplied S-300 air defense missiles to Iran, Reuters reported.

"There have been no such deliveries to date," said Ivanov when asked when Russia would deliver the missiles to Iran, according to Reuters.

Ivanov oversees Russia's defense sector. He said the S-300 system was defensive, according to the news agency.

The U.S. and Israel have pushed Russia not to complete a contract to supply the S-300 system to Iran.

Israel said the systems could be used to help Iran defend its nuclear sites.

The truck-mounted S-300PMU1, known in the West as the SA-20, can shoot down cruise missiles and aircraft up to 90 miles away, Reuters reported.

Reuters contributed to this report.
