Vintage mortar shell found at Texas home was live explosive

A vintage mortar shell found in the yard of a vacant Texas home was an actual live explosive, MyFoxdfw.com reported.

The shell was determined to be live by military bomb squad officers from Fort Hood who arrived at the Collin County home, according to FOX 4.

The soldiers removed the bomb and took it to a remote location, where it was detonated.

Lavon Police Chief Jason Rector told FOX 4 the explosive was determined to be from the era spanning the end of WWII and the start of the Vietnam War.

Police say a maintenance worker hired by the bank that owns the house discovered the shell beneath of pile of miscellaneous things, the station reported.
