Is the world awaiting a boxing match pitting Mark Sanchez vs. Rex Ryan?
Maybe not.
The New York Jets' quarterback knows it would be a mismatch anyway.
Sanchez told GQ magazine for its September issue that he "wanted to fight" Ryan after the coach considered benching him following a poor stretch. The two laughed off the comments after the Jets' 20-16 loss to the Texans in Houston on Monday night.
"Was I going to fight Rex? Obviously not," Sanchez told reporters. "That would be like (Oscar) De La Hoya and George Foreman. Way out of my weight class and he'd probably kick my butt."
Ryan said Sanchez's comments were exactly what he wanted to hear.
"You want that guy that is competitive," Ryan said. "We're both competitive guys and all we want is what's best for our team."
