Poll: Obama Falters in Key Battleground State

Published December 23, 2015

Associated Press

RICHMOND, Va. -- A new poll finds that President Barack Obama's disapproval rating has soared to 54 percent in Virginia, a battleground state he carried in 2008 and will likely need to be re-elected next year.

The Quinnipiac University Poll of 1,368 registered voters from Sept. 7-12 shows only 40 percent approved of the president's performance, down from 48 percent in the same survey in June.

It also showed that a majority -- 51 percent -- felt the Democratic president does not deserve a second term while 41 percent would re-elect him.

The survey's margin of sampling error was plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
The poll also found that 54 percent felt the United States should not be fighting the war in Afghanistan.
