The "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert mocked fans of President Donald Trump during a segment on his show Tuesday night.
During his monologue, Colbert remarked that a University of Massachusetts Amherst poll found that Trump's approval rating had sunk to just 33%. After the audience cheered, he added that Trump's other poll numbers were also "pretty rough."
"On average, 47.2% of Americans strongly disapprove of him," Colbert said. "There are still 22.4% who strongly approve of him."

The audience then booed at the news of people still supporting Trump, leading Colbert to address the camera and ask, "Who are you?"
Colbert then used a mocking tone and joked, "Well, I want gas to be expensive. I want the Kennedy Center blown up. And I know this is a pipe dream, but is there any way that maybe — maybe — we could get Denmark to hate us? Because I would just love it if the price of licorice went up, too."
In a comment to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said, "Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck with no talent and terrible ratings, which is exactly why CBS canceled his show and is booting him off the airwaves."

Trump stood at 41% approval and 59% disapproval in the latest Fox News national poll, which was conducted March 20–23. The president's negative 18-point margin was up from 14 points in the previous Fox News poll, which was conducted Feb. 28–March 2, as the strikes against Iran began.

His comments have only gotten more incendiary since it was announced that "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would air its final episode in May. Colbert and other liberal commentators have accused CBS and its parent company Paramount of canceling the show to appeal to Trump.
