Turkey is naturally low in fat and is known to contain nutrients that keeps blood cholesterol down, protects against birth defects, cancer and heart disease, aids in nerve function and growth, boosts the immune system and regulates blood pressure.

It's a bit trickier when using ground pork, affectionately known as the other white meat. It is only considered lean if it contains less than 17 percent fat, so be sure to check the packaging carefully.

Ingredients:
• 1 lb. ground turkey
• ½ lb. ground pork
• 1 medium carrot, grated
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
• 2 tablespoons ketchup
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• ½ teaspoon ground cumin
• ½ teaspoon onion powder
• 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
• 1 pkg turkey bacon
• 6 rolls
• Salt and pepper

Ketchup Ingredients:
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 garlic clove, minced
• 1 cup ketchup
• ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
• ¼ teaspoon chipotle chili powder

Directions:
1. In a saucepan over medium heat, lightly sauté garlic in butter. About a minute or two.
2. Add ketchup, red pepper flakes and chipotle chili powder. Cook for a few more minutes. Let cool before serving.
3. In large skillet, cook bacon (2 slices per burger). While bacon is cooking, prepare your ingredients by grating the carrot and chopping the garlic. Then heat a large skillet over medium heat and add oil.
4. In a large bowl, using your hands, mix together turkey, pork, grated carrot, garlic, parmesan cheese, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, cumin, onion powder and season well with salt and pepper.
5. Score the meat mixture into 6 even patties.
6. Sear the patties on both sides until golden brown, about 6 minutes on each side.
7. Slather both sides of your bun with spicy ketchup.
8. Place burger inside hamburger buns topped with lettuce and turkey bacon.
