A New York City hospital has revealed Legionella bacteria was found in several areas of the center after a testing of its water systems in August. Mount Sinai Beth Israel said one patient contracted Legionella bacteria and is currently being treated for it, NY 1 reported.

The hospital released a statement saying in part that it is “taking the proper steps to eradicate the issue,” according to the report, and that efforts to remove it began immediately after a positive test result was returned.

The bacteria can cause Legionellosis, a respiratory disease, Legionnaire’s disease, a serious type of pneumonia. An infection can lead to lung failure or even death.
