Lindsay Lohan Transferred to Rehab Facility as Lawyer Denies Meth Reports

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer is denying that the actress is battling an addiction to crystal meth following shocking reports that the highly-addictive drug played a part in her personal troubles.

Sources told TMZ.com that Lohan will be treated for an addiction to methamphetamine and bipolar disorder during her 90-day rehab stint. Lohan was released from jail Monday after serving 14 of her 90-day sentence.

But Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, told TMZ “I have never seen any psych report concerning Ms. Lohan which references a ‘bipolar’ diagnosis or an addiction to ‘methamphetamine.’ I think this is a total fabrication.”

Several other celebrities have been linked to crystal meth, including Jodie Sweetin, Fergie and Ryan O’Neal. Other stars, including Eddie Van Halen, have denied any addiction to the drug, despite reports to the contrary.

Meth, also known as crystal meth, is a psychoactive stimulant that increases alertness and energy. In higher doses, it can induce euphoria or intense self-esteem. Because it increases levels of dopamine and serotonin, it has a high potential for abuse.

Methamphetamine has also been used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Lohan has a prescription for Adderall, an amphetamine drug also used to treat ADHD.

Lohan was transferred to the UCLA Medical Center in California under police escort Monday morning, minutes after she was released from prison. She was scheduled to serve her 90 days of treatment at the Morningside Recovery Center in Orange County, California, but there were concerns that the facility was not “secure enough,” according to a report from People magazine.
