DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan – Pakistani intelligence officials say a roadside bombing has killed one paramilitary soldier and wounded another in the South Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border.
Two officials said the bomb exploded on Monday when the two Frontier Corps members were bringing water containers on mules for their post in the region's Tiarza area. A spokesman for a local Taliban faction claimed responsibility for the attack.
The officials spokes on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to journalists.
The attack came just days after the army organized a cross-county car rally from the region to demonstrate how peace has allegedly returned to the area.
The Pakistani military has conducted operations against militants there since 2009 but militant groups still have the capability to launch attacks.
