Swiss authorities say the body of a Swiss fighter jet pilot has been found after his U.S.-built F/A-18C aircraft went missing in the Alps two days ago.

The federal government says the pilot's remains were found Wednesday near the wreckage from the crash in the Susten Pass of central Switzerland. The pilot was only identified as a 27-year-old career military man, and authorities said his family has been notified.

Military investigators were looking into what caused the crash. Authorities have temporarily banned overflights of a small perimeter around the site in the Hinter-Tierberg region, at around 3,000 meters (about 9,850 feet).

The one-seat jet took off Monday from an air base in Meiringen for a training flight. The pilot responded to a first message from base, but not a second one.
