Canada's national police force says it has halted a possible terrorist threat, but it is providing few other details.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say they received credible information of a potential terrorist threat earlier Wednesday.

They say a suspect was identified and the "proper course of action has been taken" to ensure that there is no danger to public safety. It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested.

Police say because the matter is still unfolding and the investigation remains underway, there will be no further comment.

A spokesman declined to release further details.
