A government official from Taiwan says the Taiwanese wire fraud suspects who were deported from Kenya to China are adjusting to conditions in a Beijing detention center.

Head of the Justice Ministry's department of international and cross-strait legal affairs Chen Wen-chi said she was given a tour of the Haidian district detention center's medical facilities and interview rooms Thursday but was only able to observe the suspects on security cameras.

She said they appeared to be in good physical condition. Chinese police are investigating their involvement in telephone scams that cheated Chinese victims out of large sums and several have reportedly confessed to crimes.

Taiwan protested the deportations but China claimed jurisdiction because its citizens were the victims.
