Spain: 2 dead, 3 injured in Canary Islands building collapse

Spanish officials say the body of a second woman has been found in the rubble of a four-story apartment building that collapsed in the popular Canary Islands tourist destination of Los Cristianos.

A Canary Island government statement said a middle-aged woman's body was found shortly before 5 a.m. (0400 GMT). The body of another woman was found Thursday hours after the collapse of the building in a built-up central area of the southern coastal town on the island of Tenerife

Three people suffered injuries. It was not known how many people were in the building when it collapsed.

Witnesses told Spanish media the building had been undergoing renovations.

The statement said firefighters with sniffer dogs continued searching in the rubble for other possible victims.
