Wichita police are reviewing video from a gas station that appears to back the claim of two college students who say they were attacked by a white man who shouted racial epithets and the name of Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

Lt. Jeff Gilmore told the Wichita Eagle that the video provides a view of a weekend altercation that's being investigated as a potential hate crime; however, police aren’t immediately able to determine the attacker’s identity.

The surveillance video from early Saturday morning shows Wichita State University student body president Khondoker Usama, who’s Muslim, and his Hispanic friend, who has requested to remain anonymous, at a gas station near campus.

The two are at a gas pump, filling the tank of a black car when something offscreen catches their attention. Usama told the newspaper that a white man in his 20s or 30s started calling a black customer at the convenience store by a racial epithet before he noticed the two of them.

“Then suddenly [his attention] turned onto us, calling [to] us, ‘Brown trash, go home. Trump will win,’” Usama said. The man then approached them on a motorcycle, and said, “You want to live in this country, you better leave.”

The video then shows one of the two students – who Usama said was his Latino friend – reacting to the man’s words and the exchange escalating. Usama's friend can be seen poking the white man in the chest, and the man takes a swing in response but misses.

On the video, Usama's friend appears to continue to engage with the motorcyclist. According to Usama, he was trying to diffuse the situation, but his friend wound up getting shoved and punched.

“He kept kicking the student who was laying on the ground,” Usama told the Wichita Eagle. “He was kicking him. It was a gut-wrenching scene. He saw that I was calling the police and got back on his motorcycle and circled around us and was saying, ‘Trump! Trump! Trump! We will make America great again. You losers will be thrown out of the wall.’

A police report says the friend suffered a bruised lip. Usama said the man rode away after circling and shouting Trump's name.
