MEXICO CITY – Experts say a recruitment drive by a Mexican cartel using fliers to promise drug dealers high wages and good benefits reflects the expanding power of the gang.
Prosecutors in western Jalisco state say the cartel handed out fliers advertising jobs as security guards under the name of a fake company.
While the prosecutors did not name the gang, experts said Friday it is without doubt the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
And while authorities said the open recruitment was a sign of a labor shortage due to recent police raids, experts added that it was also a sign of the cartel's expanding power and impunity.
In 2008, a cartel in the border city of Ciudad Juarez advertised for drivers who were unwittingly used as drug couriers.
