A Kenyan prosecutor has charged a helicopter pilot with assault after a public outcry over a video clip in which he appears to attack a female police officer.

Alistair Patrick Llewelyn denied the charges Wednesday when he appeared in court in the central Kenyan town of Nyandarua. He was detained until Monday when there will be a bail hearing.

The incident happened when Llewelyn had flown Deputy President William Ruto to a function in Nyandarua on Sunday.

The footage, which has circulated on social media, appears to show how Llewelyn tries to strike the officer, shoves her and tells her to do her job in front of a crowd of onlookers who had gathered near the helicopter.

Many Kenyans have accused the pilot, who's white, of being racist.
