The Israeli military says forces shot and killed a Palestinian after he tried to stab soldiers in the West Bank.

The military says the Palestinian was attempting to cross the West Bank separation barrier when forces approached him. The military says he then drew a knife and attempted to stab the soldiers, who opened fire and killed him.

Monday's incident is the latest in a relentless outburst of Israeli-Palestinian violence roiling the region.

At least 151 Palestinians have been killed by Israel fire since violence broke out in mid-September. Israel says that some 106 of them have been attackers while the rest have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops.

Some 26 Israelis, as well as an American student, have been killed in near-daily Palestinian attacks, mainly stabbings.
