Forecasters say a tropical cyclone may get stronger before it hits western Australia's coast on Sunday morning.

Australia's Bureau of Meteorology said Tropical Cyclone Stan had sustained winds near its center of 110 kilometers per hour (68 mph) on Saturday evening. Landfall was forecast east of Port Hedland near the sparsely populated communities of Pardoo and Wallal in West Australia state.

The forecasters warned that if the storm got stronger overnight, wind gusts could reach 200 kph (124 mph).

Authorities warned of potential wind damage and flooding on the coast and along rivers.
