A prominent Labour Party legislator known for his work to expose child sex abuse in his district has been suspended by the party for allegedly sending sexually explicit texts to a teenage girl.

Simon Danczuk Friday apologized for his behavior and said "there's no fool like an old fool."

He apologized after The Sun newspaper reported that he repeatedly sent explicit texts to a 17-year-old girl who was seeking a job.

The Labour Party said Danczuk would be suspended while a full investigation takes place.

Danczuk had taken a lead role in prodding police and other agencies to investigate widespread child sex abuse in the Rochdale area 220 miles (355 miles) northwest of London.
