Iraqi officials say a suicide attack on a security checkpoint north of the capital, Baghdad, has killed at least 10 people.

A police officer says the suicide bomber set off his explosives-laden vest Saturday at an Iraqi police checkpoint in the Kadhimiya neighborhood in Baghdad. He says four civilians were among those killed, while 35 others were wounded.

A medical official confirmed the casualty figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.

No one immediately claimed the attack, but the Islamic State group, which controls a third of Iraq and Syria, has claimed several previous attacks targeting Iraqi security forces and the country's Shiite majority.
