Florida police said a man admitted to killing and disemboweling his girlfriend after she called out her ex-husband’s name during sex.
Fidel Lopez, 24, was arrested after he admitted to killing his girlfriend, Maria Nemeth, 31, early Sunday.
Lopez called 911 and said his girlfriend was having trouble breathing and was going to die. Police found Lopez crying next to Nemeth’s naked body with blood and body tissue scattered around the apartment, the South South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
He initially told investigators that the couple had been having sex when Nemeth went into the bathroom, vomited and collapsed.
However, further questioning by investigators revealed a more gruesome story.
According to police, Lopez had gone into a drunken rage after Nemeth reportedly called out her ex’s name while having rough sex in the closet in their Sunrise home.
Lopez told investigators that he became a “monster” and that hearing someone else’s name during sex upset and enraged him. He admitted to police to shattering a sliding glass, punching holes into a wall and ripping a closet door off its hinges, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Police said Lopez then attacked Nemeth, who was lying unconscious. He told police he raped her with a beer bottle and a flat iron for hair, before pulling out part of her intestines, the report continued.
Lopez carried Nemeth to the bathroom and tried to wake her up by putting water on her face. He told police he started to panic and called 911.
Lopez was charged with first-degree murder. According to the Sun Sentinel, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement only has one other arrest for disorderly intoxication in 2014 on Lopez’s record.
