Authorities in Kyrgyzstan say four militants linked to an international terror organization have been killed in a shootout in the country's capital of Bishkek.

The National Security Committee said in a statement that four of its officers were also wounded in the operation Thursday. It did not identify the organization that the militants were reportedly affiliated with, but local media suggested it was the Islamic State group.

Concern is high in Kyrgyzstan and other former Soviet Central Asian republics that IS is recruiting fighters in their predominantly Muslim countries and that IS militants are establishing footholds there.
