Heavy rains in southern China leave 18 dead, 4 missing

Chinese authorities say 18 people have died from heavy storms that have swept through several southern provinces this past week.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs says four people remain missing from the storms that have dumped nearly 1 inch (25 millimeter) of rainfall in some towns.

The ministry says the deaths were caused by house collapses, landslides, drowning or lightning.

Hubei Province has reported the highest death toll of 10.
