George Zimmerman has agreed to enter the boxing ring and he wants a piece of Kanye West.
According to TMZ, the 30-year-old Florida man who was acquitted for the 2012 death of Treyvon Martin, 17, said he wants to fight West because of the rapper's history of attacking “defenseless people.”
The website said promoters of Zimmerman’s upcoming celebrity boxing match said the former neighborhood watchman really wants to step into the ring with the “Yeezus” rapper.
Zimmerman told Radar Online that boxing was a hobby for him prior to his murder trial and used the sport to manage his ever-fluctuating weight.
“Prior to the incident I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss … A mutual friend put me in contact with Damon (Feldman, the match’s promoter) and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out.”
Zimmerman did not reveal if he would be making any money from the event, but did say that some of the proceeds would go to charity.
The former neighborhood watchman has kept busy since his acquittal, racking up a series of speeding offenses and been arrested due to altercations with his ex-wife and current girlfriend – including domestic violence, and felony aggravated assault. He has also made forays into the art world, selling two painting on eBay.
On the other side, West has a shorter history of run-ins with the law. His well-documented outbursts with the paparazzi over the years included an alleged scuffle with LA-based photographer Daniel Ramos.
Ramos, who claims assault, battery, negligence and violation of civil rights, filed a lawsuit against the rapper seeking unspecified damages. West was charged with misdemeanor battery.
