Police arrest man who hid Japanese cult fugitive

Japanese police have arrested a man claiming to have lived with a senior member of the doomsday cult behind the 1995 Tokyo subway gassing.

Police say the 41-year-old man turned himself in Tuesday, a day after former Aum Shinrikyo member Naoko Kikuchi's arrest. The 40-year-old Kikuchi allegedly helped to produce the deadly sarin used in the attack. She was one of the two remaining cult members wanted as murder suspects in the case.

Police say Hiroto Takahashi started living with her six years ago. They moved to an apartment together in 2010 in Sagamihara city near Tokyo, where she was caught. Police raided their hideout Tuesday.

The subway attack killed 13 and injured thousands. Cult guru Shoko Asahara and 12 others convicted of the crime are on death row.
