A leopard created a panic Monday in India after attacking at least six people before it was shot and killed by a local police officer.

The leopard was first spotted in the 60,000-resident city of Karad as it perched on the tin roof of one home before walking into another home that was empty, the Mumbai Mirror reports.

“A few people hurled stones inside and the leopard came out and started attacking anyone who came before him,” said resident Vasant Devdige. “It was scared out of its wits due to the din and chaos around.”

After two gunshots fired in the air by police failed to scare off the animal, the leopard was killed by two shots at close-range from a police officer's revolver.
