A Southern California woman accused of killing her 7-month old baby by pushing him from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure has been found mentally fit to stand trial.

The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/2fiyBpd) a judge on Monday made the final determination regarding Sonia Hermosillo's mental competence. The 36-year-old was ordered back to court Nov. 16 for a pre-trial hearing.

Hermosillo has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to murder and assault on a child causing death.

Prosecutors say Hermosillo removed a special helmet her son wore to reshape his head before pushing him from the parking garage at Children's Hospital of Orange County in 2011. They say she validated her parking ticket and drove away. The boy died two days later.

Defense attorney Jacqueline Goodman maintains Hermosillo suffered from severe post-partum depression.
