Authorities say a man who hit a police officer with his car in South Carolina has been shot in the arm by a second officer.

Aiken County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Eric Abdullah said in a news release that deputies were investigating two suspicious cars around 3 p.m. Monday when one of the drivers took off, striking one officer and driving toward a second.

Abdullah says the second officer fired at the car, and the suspect was arrested after a short chase. The suspect received a gunshot wound to the arm.

Abdullah says both the officer struck by the car and the suspect should survive the shooting.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating. Spokesman Thom Berry says both the officer who fired and suspect are black. Their names weren't released.
