The Latest: Police reveal details of prior run-in with woman

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. – The Latest on the fatal shooting of a black woman in a gunfire exchange with police that also injured a young boy (all times local):

Authorities say an armed black woman fatally shot during a standoff with police had previously refused to get out of her car during a traffic stop in March, saying officers would have to "murder" her.

Authorities say officers killed 23-year-old Korryn Gaines on Monday after an exchange of gunfire that also wounded a 5-year-old boy. It's not clear who shot the boy, who is expected to recover.

Police say they were serving Gaines an arrest warrant Monday at an apartment for failure to appear in court on disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges.

On March 10, court documents say that when an officer told Gaines to get out her car because it was being towed for a suspended registration, she said officers would have to "murder" her. The documents say she held an infant and her young son on her lap as she spoke.

Documents say an officer stopped a Toyota Camry that bore cardboard notes instead of license plates. The cardboard "plates" said: "Free Traveler" and "Any Government official who compromises this pursuit of happiness and right to travel will be held criminally responsible and fined, as this is a natural right and freedom."

Police said she had to be pulled from the car.

Baltimore County police say a woman who pointed a gun at police serving arrest warrants at her apartment was shot and killed by officers in a shooting that also left a 5-year-old boy wounded.

The department says in a news release that the boy who was in the apartment with 23-year-old Korryn Gaines was shot in a limb Monday and taken to a hospital. Police couldn't immediately determine if he was shot by the woman or officers.

According to police, three officers went to Gaines' apartment in Randallstown around 9:20 a.m. to serve arrest warrants on her and a man. Authorities say Gaines was wanted for failing to appear in court on traffic charges dating from a stop in March.
