A U.S. citizen has become the second person to plead guilty in New York City in connection with a bribery scandal at the United Nations.

Sheri Yan entered the plea in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday. A Chinese businesswoman pleaded guilty in the case a week ago.

The case resulted in the arrest last year of a former president of the U.N. General Assembly.

The women were charged with helping to arrange more than $1 million in bribes to be paid to the U.N. official in exchange for his promotion of a U.N. conference center in Macau.

The case also has resulted in charges against a current U.N. diplomat and a Chinese billionaire.

Yan is to be sentenced April 29.
