A man who authorities say fled to Russia after stabbing his girlfriend and her adult daughter in New York City has been convicted of murder. Prosecutors say it is only the second time someone has been convicted in Russia for a crime committed in the U.S.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office says Nikolai Rakossi was convicted Wednesday in Tula, Russia.

Rakossi's 56-year-old girlfriend, Tatyana Prikhodko, and her 27-year-old daughter, Larisa, were found dead in a Brooklyn apartment in April 2011. They had been stabbed multiple times.

Authorities say Rakossi was already on a flight to Russia when authorities discovered the women dead. He could not be extradited and was tried in Russia.

In 2012, a man was convicted in a Russian court for the 2002 killings of his roommates in Tennessee.
