Police in Austin are investigating the shooting death of an armed man by an officer after the man fled during questioning.

The Austin American-Statesman (http://atxne.ws/1HUT6Vm ) reports the officer killed the man Saturday when police went to his home to talk to him after tracing a license tag a woman provided when she called 911 to report being followed.

Assistant Police Chief Brian Manley said officers talked with the man briefly but returned quickly to ask more questions when they noticed blood on his pickup and then on his clothing.

Manley said the man was shot after he fled to the side of the house and was seen pulling something from the back of his shorts. He said the man's gun was found at the scene.
