The defense attorney for a Michigan woman charged in her adult son's murder and dismemberment has described her to a jury as a doting mother.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Mark Haddad also said Wednesday in his opening statement at her murder trial that there was no reason for Donna Scrivo to kill 32-year-old Ramsay Scrivo.

Assistant prosecutor Bill Cataldo told the Macomb County Circuit Court jury that the slaying was planned and premeditated.

Prosecutors have said Donna Scrivo filed a missing person's report in January 2014, claiming her son had left his St. Clair Shores home and failed to return.

Bags containing his body parts were found a few days later in St. Clair County, northeast of Detroit. An electric saw was in one of the bags.
