What happens after jurors reveal a sentencing decision in the case of a former Hawaii-based soldier's death penalty case?

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, the judge could impose the sentence immediately but will likely set a date in the future if the jurors choose death for Naeem Williams.

The same jury convicted Williams of murder in his 5-year-old daughter's 2005 beating death.

If Williams is sentenced to death, he'll likely go to federal death row in Indiana. Because Hawaii doesn't have the death penalty, the judge would have to pick a state that does to carry out any execution. If Williams is sentenced to life in prison without possibility for release, he'll be assigned to a federal prison based on factors including his security level and medical needs.
