A homeowner in northern New Jersey took a photo of a live deer with an arrow shot clean through its head.

Susan Darrah, who said she tried to help the injured deer, spotted the animal Friday in her backyard while it was with other deer, The Smoking Gun reports. Darrah, 64, posted the photo to her Facebook page, saying, "Tried to capture him to no avail…..he can eat, run and there's no blood, less chance of infection. I just feel so bad for him..."

The deer reportedly returned to the property since it was first spotted and she will alert the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife if it returns.
