A 22-year-old ballerina struck on a Philadelphia street in a hit-and-run, allegedly by a teenager facing drunken driving charges, has died.

Polina Kadiyska, who was attending the prestigious Rock School for Dance Education in South Philadelphia, was run down around 4 a.m. Sunday by an intoxicated teenage driver who fled the scene, according to police.

Authorities say Kadiyska, from Bulgaria, was hit by 19-year-old Deandre Barnes, who allegedly ran a red light as the ballerina crossed the street near her school after having left a nearby Chinese restaurant.

Police said the teenager continued driving his 1999 Audi A4, but then fled on foot after hitting three parked cars, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

Kadiyska died Tuesday after she was taken off life support at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Barnes has been charged with driving under the influence and aggravated assault, among other charges. He remains jailed on $1 million bail.
