The nominees for The 16th Annual Webby Awards were announced on Tuesday and competition is fierce this year for the best travel sites and apps on the Internet.

Rising start-ups like Trippy and Hipmunk are competing against travel giants like TripAdvisor, Kayak and Jetsetter, for the “Best Travel Website.” Kayak is also up for “Best Mobile Travel App,” against TripIt, DiscoverHongKong.AR, FlightBoard, and Expedia Hotels. National Geographic scored five nominations in the Mobile Web category, more than any other travel publication.

Presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. This year, The Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.

“The nominees mirror this incredible year on the Internet, from memes to viral videos to cultural movements and extraordinary creativity,” said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of the Webby Awards. “IADAS has distilled the best and most innovative work on the web and we look forward to celebrating at this year’s ceremony in May.”

There is still time for travel enthusiasts to root for their favorite nominee. Until Thursday, the public is invited to name the best sites and apps within the industry by casting their ballot for The Webby Awards’ “People Voice Awards." Click here for a complete list of nominees.
