Want to keep your printer safe, improve your Wi-Fi and shop safely online? Then read this column.

Does a printer have memory?

Q. I'm getting rid of my old all-in-one printer and buying a new one. Is there anything I need to do before I sell it or give it away?

A. Before letting go of any electronic gadget, you need to make sure it doesn't contain any personal information. A standalone printer doesn't retain anything, but an all-in-one might have saved documents, scans, print logs or fax logs. To do a basic reset, turn the printer ON, unplug it for 15 seconds and then plug it back in. That should get rid of everything. If not, click here for the steps to do a full factory reset on a printer.

Start a business for less than $100

Q. I'd like to be my own boss, but starting a business requires a lot of money. Am I wrong?

A. A new business can take thousands or millions of dollars to get off the ground, but there are businesses you can start for $100 or less. Become a local tour guide using a site like Vayable, take on small basic tasks with TaskRabbit or Gigwalk, or make a name doing skilled tasks with Fiverr. Learn more about these, and get ideas for four other businesses. Be sure to read the bonus Q&A to stay updated on the future of business payments.

Improve your Wi-Fi in 5 minutes

Q. My Wi-Fi is very weak in one of my rooms. What can I do to make it stronger?

A. Move your Wi-Fi router to a central location in your home so it covers the most area. Also, make sure there's nothing large next to it that is blocking the signal, such as furniture, and especially metal. As odd as it sounds, you can also try changing the antenna direction. Click here to learn why antenna direction matters and one more secret you can do when your connection is poor.

Q. I'm having my girlfriend over for the first time to watch Netflix, and there are some movies in my watched list that I'm not so proud of. What can I do?

A. Netflix does let you edit your viewing activity. Simply go to Netflix.com/ViewingActivity and sign in to see a history of your video watching. Scroll down the list and click the "X" next to any videos you want to remove. Click here to discover more tricks you can use on Netflix, including setting up the right profiles and tweaking your recommendations so you see things you actually want to watch.

Save on travel

Q. I'm trying to find a good deal on airline tickets for Thanksgiving. What sites should I use?

A. There are plenty of deal sites, depending on what you want. Travelocity is a good one for package deals on flights, hotels and car rentals. Airfarewatchdog is a good place to find new discounts and cheap prices. Get my recommendation on three other sites that help you save on international travel, predict upcoming prices and the best all-around site for travel.

Bonus: The future of payments

Q. I've got a new iPhone and it's asking if I want to use Apple Pay. It looks convenient, but is it secure?

A. Apple Pay and its Android competitor, Android Pay, are actually very secure. They don't store your credit card information, and every transaction uses a one-time authorization code, so hackers who steal it can't use it to buy anything. That's just the beginning, though. Click the links to learn more about how Apple Pay and Android Pay can make your shopping safer, both in-store and online.
