It's been five years since Apple launched its trail-blazing App Store, and the company is marking the event with--what else?--an app giveaway.

Go to the App Store with your Apple device and pick up the 10 apps Apple is offering, free of charge, from the section called "5 Years of the App Store." They include How to Cook Everything, usually $4.99, a guide by New York Times food writer Mark Bittman. It's got more than 120 tutorials and recipes of all kinds, from vegetarian to quick dinners. Badland, normally $1.99, is a game in which you control a hedgehog-like creature trying to make its way through an alien landscape. Barefoot Atlas, usually priced at $4.99, is a beautifully illustrated, graphical atlas with info about countries, regions, and items of interest ranging from nature to famous people. Traktor DJ, $19.99, is a DJ app.

Other apps included in the offer are the games Wide Sky , SuperBrothers Sword & Sorcery, Where's My Water?, and Tiny Wings, as well as Day One, a diary, and Over, a photo app. Get 'em all, and you'll save close to $47.
