(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE NANCY PELOS, D-CALIF.: I'm confident — I'm hopeful that we will have a bill as a Christmas present to the American people.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Did you catch that? A "Christmas present." And we're the ones paying for it.
Now, I don't want to mix holidays, but man, how's that for chutzpah?
You know, it's cute when my little boys do that at a Santa boutique or whatever it's called at their school and, with mom and dad's money, they get mom and dad some cheap but cute gifts.
But this isn't cute and this isn't cheap. But it did get me thinking: Imagine if one of my boys came home and the following happened:
"Look, Dad, I got you this trillion dollar health care plan you've always wanted! Don't you love it?"
"Oh, son, it's... umm... beautiful!"
"But remember, Dad, the lady at the store said you have to pay her a trillion dollars. And she looked pretty serious."
Only difference is the lady at this store is Nancy Pelosi and she wants the money first. The gift, the benefits, come much later.
Now how this can be construed as a "Christmas present," I don't know. What I do know is it's a familiar Washington theme. emember when Hillary Clinton played off the gift idea with this campaign ad when she was running for president? It might be nice, warm images, but you're the one paying the cold, hard cash for 'em.
And don't forget that.
Only in Washington can they create a monstrous program, stick you with the monstrous bill and then have the monstrous nerve to say, "Merry Christmas."
Are you merry freaking kidding me?
Something is very wrong in our nation's capitol when they think nothing of spending our capital and do it all behind closed doors, no less; supposedly wrapping presents we cannot see, with money we do not have and whose final price tag we will not know.
And now we're supposed to be excited they're coming down our chimney?
Well, sorry, Nancy. I know Santa. Santa's a friend of mine. Nancy, you're no Santa. And now you're trying to come down my chimney?
I'm building a fire. A big one.
