• On May 14 1969, Nixon proposed an 8-point peace plan for Vietnam.

• Nixon announced June 8 1969 that 25,000 U.S. troops would be withdrawn from South Vietnam by August 31

• In a nationally televised major policy speech on Vietnam on November 3, 1969 President Nixon said his Administration had adopted a plan in co-operation with the South Vietnamese for the complete withdrawal of all U.S. combat ground forces "on an orderly scheduled timetable."

• On November 3, Nixon directed plea to "the great silent majority of my fellow Americans" for support of Vietnam plan in a TV speech.

• On November 26, 1969 Nixon signs legislation authorizing a draft lottery.
