I think I remember the media giving President Bush more than a little grief for mangling words. Somehow, the same people who blasted our last president are strangely silent over the fact that our current president lacks some, well, rather basic knowledge about the world:

Mr. President, you probably don't know what the term is in Austrian because Austrian is not a language. Let me help you out: In Austria most people speak German.
I’m sure there are Austrians who speak a variety of other languages as well, but Austrian is not one of them. I guess they left that out of your briefing book and teleprompter!
U.N., Here We Come!
Buckle your seatbelt because Robert Gibbs is back on Liberal Translation with another rocky performance. We told you on Monday that the foreign press isn't quite as thrilled with Obama's European apology tour as our mainstream media.
Well, in Turkey Tuesday, one foreign reporter asked the "Minister of Spin" just how exactly the president plans to broker the various international agreements that he's promised. This is the response he got:

ROBERT GIBBS, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: Well, I think in many ways it's what David just outlined and it's what we talked about on the beginning of this trip.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Yeah, what he said!
GIBBS: I think it begins with listening.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: When you have no good ideas, there's no other option.
GIBBS: I think in each of the instances that we've discussed where this has happened, you have some degree or desire between the parties to come together, but some hurdle in the way of doing that in an obvious way, and it simply takes somebody willing to listen and seek compromise.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: I wonder why nobody thought of this before!
GIBBS: And ultimately deal with both parties in a way that they understand and believe that rightly so that we're all moving forward on this.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: North Korea, Iran, the U.S.. we're all moving forward.

In your case, Robert, listening for a little while might do you a lot of good. Anything as long as you're not talking.
He's Still Talking
He's one of President Obama's many disgraced appointees and he is not exactly riding off quietly into the night. Instead, Charles Freeman — the former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia who had been tapped to head President Obama’s National Intelligence Council — sat down recently with Press TV for an interview in which he once again shared his anti-Israeli views with the world.
In his tirade of an interview, Freeman said, "I am critical of the Israeli policy. I believe Israel's policies are destructive to American interests and also to Israeli interests." His rant continued, saying, "I do not see how Israel can continue to survive in the long term as a state in the Middle East if it is not prepared to deal — with respect and consideration of its Arab neighbors."
And according to Freeman, he's doing everyone a service. He said, "I think it is not an act of hostility to Israel to be critical, but an act of friendship."
Oh, and for anyone who can't understand his position on this issue, he calls you "detestable." I think we can all be thankful that Mr. Freeman's time representing this country is over.
Obama's Newest Aide
President Obama promised the American people he'd fill his administration with the best and brightest minds in America. Well, let’s just say this may be another one of those broken promises by Mr. Obama.
Tuesday, Entertainment Weekly broke the story that actor Kal Penn, best known for his role as Kumar in the "Harold and Kumar" stoner movies, will be leaving Hollywood to take a job at the White House. The actor told the magazine, "I got to know the president and some of the staff during the campaign and had expressed interest in working there."
Wow, talk about a grueling interview process! Mr. Penn will soon join the Obama administration as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison.
So besides donating thousands to the Obama campaign in 2008, what other credentials does Mr. Penn bring to his new role? Well, let's take a look at him in action.
What a proud moment this must be for President Obama. Too bad secretary of state was already taken.
