Dolly Parton is "alive and well" despite a rumor Friday night that the legendary country star had died at a Tennessee hospital from congestive heart failure.
David Dotson, president of the Dollywood Foundation in Tennessee, told FOXNews.com that the rumor that Parton died at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center is false and Parton is "alive and well."
As for the source of the rumor, Dotson says he has "no idea whatsoever."
"It came out of the blue on Friday night," said Dotson, who has not spoken to Parton since the rumor started. "I have no idea who or why it started or spread like it did. The most important thing is it’s a rumor."
As for a report that it started at a high school football game, Dotson was skeptical about that.
"They never identified what football game, so I think that's not accurate," he said.
Parton has been a victim of similar rumors in the past.
"There was something a couple of years ago — I think it started on the Web. Seems to be plenty of rumor-mongers out there," Dotson said.
Parton wrapped up the summer leg of her Backwoods Barbie concert tour on Aug. 17 with a performance at Dollywood. She will take a two-month break before resuming the tour in Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 18.
