The mother of actress-singer Lindsay Lohan (search) has filed for divorce, a spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday.

Dina Lohan (search) filed for divorce from Michael Lohan (search) in Nassau County Supreme Court on Tuesday, said Leslie Sloane Zelnick, spokeswoman for Lindsay Lohan.

"Dina believes for the good of her family, and hopefully Michael's long-term goal at sobriety, that the end of this marriage should happen quickly and painlessly," according to a statement provided by Sloane Zelnick.

Messages left at the offices of Michael Lohan's lawyer were not immediately returned.

Michael Lohan was charged with assaulting his brother-in-law at a May 23 first communion party at the family's Long Island home. He maintained that his brother-in-law was responsible for the fight.

He also was arrested on June 29 after allegedly skipping out on a $3,800 bill for several suites at a posh Long Island hotel and faced assault charges in Manhattan for allegedly swearing at a sanitation worker whose truck was blocking his car and punching him in the face.

Lindsay Lohan, 18, recently released her debut album, "Speak" (search). She has starred in "Parent Trap," "Mean Girls," "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" and "Freaky Friday."
