Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean (search) said Sunday that the standard of living for Iraqis is a "whole lot worse" since Saddam Hussein's removal from power in last year's American-led invasion.

"You can say that it's great that Saddam is gone and I'm sure that a lot of Iraqis feel it is great that Saddam is gone," said the former Vermont governor, an unflinching critic of the war against Iraq. "But a lot of them gave their lives. And their living standard is a whole lot worse now than it was before."

Dean on Iraq: Got his back, or completely out of whack?

A sample of your responses:

Dean is a wacko. Send him to Iraq-o! The only office Dean will be elected to is Mayor of Tikrit!

Howard Dean is an extreme left winger. If he (Dean) thinks that Iraq had a better living standard under Saddam, he should count the dead and missing. Will Dean treat his opposition like Saddam did - eliminate his opponents in this country?

If Howard Dean thinks the majority of Iraqi people had a better life-style under Sadaam, I wonder what he'll do to us if he's elected! Higher taxes, and torture chambers?

Howard Dean is the only candidate from the beginning who has told the TRUTH as we know it, from the beginning... Some Iraqis were better off in some ways, they didn’t have TERRORISM in their country. They weren’t afraid of being blown up. They had BETTER electricity, JOBS, FREE Healthcare etc. (Now they have nice schools, etc. that they are too afraid to go to)

So, as Dean would put, as long as the other person is laying down their lives for the good of the state, it's OK. What planet do these people live on?
