Last week, we were privileged here at FNC to meet a group of American heroes. They were men and women from the Army's 1st Armored Division (search), who finished one tour of duty in Iraq and are going back for another.

Outside of FNC, you probably didn't hear about them. If the New York Times or the Washington Post mention redeployment or re-enlistment at all, it's most often in a negative context. A recent story in the Times focuses on families in the military upset about redeployments.

''He'll never re-enlist,'' says one spouse. ''He loves his country, but at this moment, he hates his government.'' Compare that quote with the testimony of troops from the 1st Armored Division, who are unwavering in their readiness to return to Iraq.

They chose to re-enlist right in the heart of an Iraqi summer. A news search in Factiva and Nexis/Lexis found just one reference to this story, published in The Leaf-Chronicle, Clarksville, TN.

And that's the Asman Observer.
