Major Garrett is a congressional correspondent for FOX News Channel (FNC). In this capacity Garrett is responsible for covering congressional elections and all breaking news on Capitol Hill. Garrett joined FNC in 2002.

Garrett previously served as an FNC general assignment reporter, and has covered a variety of topics relating to politics and policy from the nation’s capital. In 2004 Garrett reported extensively on the presidential elections, offering viewers live reports on voting irregularities around the country. He also reported live from the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, and before that, he provided extensive coverage of the Democratic presidential candidate nominating process. In 2003, Garrett spent nine weeks in California reporting on the California recall election.
Outside of politics, Garrett has covered the war in Iraq and has been the first to report on numerous breaking news stories dealing with homeland security. In 2002 Garrett covered the Washington, D.C.-area sniper attacks and did several stories on smallpox vaccinations.
Before joining FNC, Garrett served as a White House correspondent for CNN. There, he covered the Bush transition to the White House and was with President Bush in Sarasota, Fla., on Sept. 11, 2001, filing live news reports on location until the president departed. He has also covered the U.S.-China spy plane standoff and Bush’s first summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as the passage of the Bush tax cut and education reform bills. Garrett covered the last year of the Clinton presidency, filing stories on the Middle East peace summit in Sharm-el Sheikh, Egypt, and Clinton’s trips to Vietnam, Cartagena, Colombia, and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Prior to working for CNN, Garrett was a senior editor and congressional correspondent for U.S. News and World Report, where he reported on Congress and the impeachment of President Clinton. From 1990-1995, he was a congressional reporter for The Washington Times, and from 1995-1997, he was the newspaper's deputy national editor. Before joining The Washington Times, Garrett was a reporter for The Houston Post, Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Amarillo Globe-News. He has also had articles published in The Weekly Standard, Washington Monthly and Mother Jones magazines.
