NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville jury is deliberating the fate of a murder suspect in the 1975 strangulation of a 9-year-old Girl Scout.
The jury got the case at 1:40 p.m. Friday in the trial of 62-year-old Jerome Barrett, accused of first-degree murder in the death of Marcia Trimble. She was killed while delivering Girl Scout cookies in her neighborhood, and her body was found 33 days later.
Barrett became a suspect in the case 1 1/2 years ago through DNA testing.
The case is regarded as the most notorious in Nashville history because of the circumstances of the girl's death and the length of the investigation.
The defense rested Friday morning after putting on witnesses designed to cast doubt on the girl's time of death. The trial began Monday.
